America's Most Miserable Cities?

America’s Most Miserable Cities?

Toledo, Ohio has been ranked the 15th most miserable city in America by the money magazine Forbes. The ranking, based on the publication's 'Misery Measure', takes into account a variety of different issues, such as unemployment, taxes, commute times, violent crime, weather, pollution and how the city's professional sports teams have fared recently.

It also took into account statistics show that citizens have moved from Toledo more than have moved to Toledo every year over the past two decades, despite a below average cost of living.

The list includes the top 20 miserable cities in the country, picked from the 200 largest metropolitan areas. As well as Toledo, four other Ohio cities made the top 20 list, including Cleveland in the number one spot.

Below is the complete list. Is YOUR city there?

1. Cleveland, Ohio
2. Stockton, California
3. Memphis, Tennessee
4. Detroit, Michigan
5. Flint, Michigan
6. Miami, Florida
7. St. Louis, Missouri
8. Buffalo, New York
9. Canton, Ohio
10. Chicago, Illinois
11. Modesto, California
12. Akron, Ohio
13. Kansas City, Missouri
14. Rockford, Illinois
15. Toledo, Ohio
16. New York, New York
17. Sacramento, California
18. Youngstown, Ohio
19. Gary, Indiana
20. Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

May I take for granted that a few of you GASPED as you read the list? New York? Chicago? Miami? Memphis? Are they joking or what?

It would seem to me that regardless of the criteria used, if the end resulting list was, shall we say, WHACKED, then perhaps other criteria should be added?

I know when it comes to Toledo, Ohio that we have a nationally recognized Zoological Gardens, a coveted Museum of Art, more quality restaurants per square foot than just about anywhere, and are a world-renowned and accessed Port on The Great Lakes. Plus we’re the home of Tony Packo Hot Dogs, The WINNING Mud Hens baseball team, and so many more things that are too numerous to mention.

I could write separate posts on the quality venues in New York, Chicago, Miami, Memphis – oh heck, every other city on the dang list! Even Gary, Indiana had a song written about it for cryin’ out loud!

So jump on board and write a post about your city if it’s on the list, telling all of the POSITIVE things your city has!

In the meantime, simply comment below to toot your city’s horn!
